Missing Digit on FlagDuel is a free 1v1 memory duel: the digits 1 to 9 scatter across the board with exactly one of them absent and the board is shown for 1.4 seconds at first, dropping 0.06 seconds per point down to a floor of 0.9, four candidates then appear and you pick the digit that was missing, a wrong pick locks your board for 0.7 seconds, and the first player to 8 correct picks wins the round.
The digits 1 to 9 are scattered across the board, except that one of them is not. They are on screen for 1.4 seconds, and then four candidates ask you which one was never there.
Counting is not an option. Nine numbers in scattered positions cannot be checked off in order inside a second and a half, so the useful approach is closer to recognition than arithmetic: sweep the board, let the digits register, and notice which one your eye never reported. The answer tends to arrive as an absence rather than a deduction.
The display shortens by 0.06 seconds with every point, down to a floor of 0.9, so by the eighth board you are working from roughly a second of screen time. A wrong pick locks you for 0.7 seconds, and eight correct picks takes the round.
How to play

Is it quicker to spot the gap than to check all nine digits?
Much quicker, and it is what strong players actually do. Running 1 to 9 in order takes longer than the board is on screen, so the winning habit is to let the eye sweep the scatter and notice which number never registered - a gap in recognition rather than a gap on the board.
Does adding the digits up work as a shortcut?
In theory beautifully: 1 to 9 sums to 45, so the total on screen is 45 minus the missing digit. In the moment, 1.4 seconds is nowhere near enough to add eight scattered numbers, and it gets less realistic as the display shortens. It is a lovely piece of arithmetic and a poor tactic.
Why does a scattered layout beat a neat row for hiding a digit?
Because a row can be read and a scatter has to be searched. In a line your eye moves once and the gap is obvious; scattered across the board the digits have no order to fall out of, so nothing looks wrong and the absent one is simply the number you never happened to land on.
Can the same digit go missing twice in a row?
It can, and it catches people out. Nothing stops the seed removing the same digit on consecutive boards, and a player who has just answered 6 tends to rule 6 out on principle - which is exactly the assumption the next board is under no obligation to respect.
