Memory Pairs - 1v1 Card Matching Memory Duel

Memory Pairs on FlagDuel is a free 1v1 memory duel on a 4x4 board of sixteen face down cards hiding eight pairs, dealt in the same layout to you and to a live opponent, where you turn two cards at a time and a match stays face up and scores a pair while a mismatch turns straight back over - the first player to collect 5 pairs wins the round.

Sixteen cards face down, eight pairs hiding underneath, and the same layout dealt to both sides of the arena. You turn two: a match stays open and goes on your count, anything else turns back over and leaves you holding something you are supposed to remember.

Five pairs are needed, not all eight, and that changes how the board should be played. Every card you turn is information even when it scores nothing, so the early flips are not wasted turns - they are the map you spend on the run of quick pairs that ends the round.

The cards never move. Whatever you saw is still exactly where you saw it, which is what keeps this a memory duel rather than a lucky one.

How to play

  1. Press START - sixteen cards deal face down in a 4x4 board, laid out the same way on both sides.
  2. Click two cards to turn them over. A matching pair stays face up and scores; anything else turns straight back down in the same squares.
  3. First player to collect 5 pairs takes the round. Win 2 of 3 rounds to take the match.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need all eight pairs to win the round?

No, five of the eight ends it. That cut off matters more than it looks: the last three pairs are the ones you would know the positions of by then, so the round is decided in the messy middle rather than in the easy finish.

Is a flip that does not match still worth something?

It is worth a great deal. Every card you turn tells you what is sitting in that square, and pairs are made later out of squares you learned earlier - so a turn that scores nothing is often the turn that sets up two quick pairs in a row.

Should I go for a pair I have already seen or open fresh cards?

Take the certain pair first when you are level or behind, because a known match is guaranteed and a fresh card is not. When you are ahead and holding several remembered squares, spending one turn on unexplored ground is what keeps the run going after the obvious pairs dry up.

Do the cards move when they turn back over?

Never. A mismatch flips face down in exactly the same squares, and nothing on the board is ever reshuffled mid round - which is precisely why remembering is worth the effort and why a lucky opening turn does not win anybody a duel.
