Grid Flash - Pattern Memory Duel
Grid Flash on FlagDuel is a free 1v1 visual memory duel: a pattern of cells flashes on a five-by-five grid for under a second, both players see the identical pattern, and whoever rebuilds three patterns from memory first wins the round.
How to play
- Press START - a pattern of cells flashes for a moment on both grids, then goes dark.
- Tap the cells that were lit, in any order. A wrong cell redeals a fresh pattern of the same size.
- Rebuild 3 patterns before your opponent to take the round; each success grows the next pattern.

How long does the pattern stay visible?
Just under a second. That is long enough for one deliberate glance and far too short for counting cells - the game trains the same visual snapshot that classic memory-matrix tests measure.
Does the pattern grow?
Yes: your first pattern is four cells, and every rebuilt board adds one. Since the pattern reshuffles every deal, the seventh cell is much harder than the fourth - shapes stop looking like shapes.
What if I tap a cell that was not lit?
The cell flashes red and a fresh pattern of the same size deals. There is no score penalty; the punishment is the seconds your rival spends finishing their board.
How do people remember bigger patterns?
Chunk the cells into a picture - a letter, an arrow, a constellation - instead of memorising positions one by one. Visual memory holds one shape far more easily than seven separate coordinates; the skill is inventing the shape fast.
