Flag Parade - 1v1 Five Flag Recall Duel

Flag Parade on FlagDuel is a free 1v1 memory duel: 5 flags march past one every 0.6 seconds, a grid of 8 then appears holding those five alongside 3 decoys, you pick out all five in any order you like, a wrong pick locks you for 0.7 seconds, and the first player to complete 3 parades wins the round.

Five flags go past, one every six tenths of a second. Then a grid of eight, holding those five and three that were never there.

Six tenths is a strange amount of time. It is long enough to see a flag clearly and much too short to do anything thoughtful with it, so the parade defeats anyone trying to name and store each one as it arrives - by the time you have placed the second flag, the fourth has already gone. The players who clear parades comfortably are taking a light, quick look at all five and trusting recognition to do the rest.

That trust is well placed. Picking five familiar things out of eight is a far lighter job than naming any of them, which is why flags you could not have called out are still answerable. The decoys are chosen to make that harder - lookalike layouts and shared colour schemes - and a wrong pick locks you for 0.7 seconds. Three parades takes the round.

How to play

  1. Press START - 5 flags parade past, one every 0.6 seconds, in the same order on both boards.
  2. A grid of 8 appears with 3 decoys among them. Pick out the five that were in the parade, in any order; a wrong pick locks you for 0.7 seconds.
  3. First player to complete 3 parades takes the round. Win 2 of 3 rounds to take the match.

Frequently asked questions

Is picking five out of eight easier than naming them?

Considerably, and that is why the grid works the way it does. Recognising something you have seen is a far lighter job than producing its name from nothing, so flags you could never have called out by name are still perfectly answerable here - you only have to feel that you have met them.

What makes a decoy hard to reject?

Family resemblance. A decoy that shares a layout or a colour scheme with something that really did go past sits in the same corner of your memory as the genuine article, and after five flags in three seconds that corner is crowded. Plain tricolours and Nordic crosses make the cruellest decoys.

How much does 0.6 seconds per flag leave me?

Enough to look, not enough to think. Six tenths of a second is about long enough to take a flag in and start on the next one, so any attempt to name and file each flag properly means you will miss the one after it. The parade rewards a light, fast look at all five.

Should I pick the flags I am sure of first?

Always. A wrong pick locks you for 0.7 seconds, so banking the certain ones costs nothing and shrinks the problem - once three are down, the remaining tiles are fewer and the two you were unsure about are easier to separate. Leading with a guess risks the lock while the easy points are still on the table.
